VÆG – Contemporary Art Gallery – new exhibition:
It is getting brighter. The Sun is playing. It sprouts and grows. Everything blooms. But there is a balance. A hard fine balance. No light without darkness. No growth without decay. No human can just give and create without inspiration, love and the feeling of being part of something meaningful. We feed off each other.
Emil Staggemeier (b. 1994)has been working long hours in the creation of this exhibition in the borderland between light and dark, hope and despair:
‘I am very happy to share these new floral works, which are a series of self (portrait) paintings combined with flowers and their symbolism. The last few years I have felt distanced from both myself and my surroundings. I always thought I could handle it all by myself. I was mistaken! The flower series is about reaching out, protecting nature and my surroundings. Compared to my previous works - the underlying theme is 'hope'. I now experience a budding sense of inner peace and the pursuit of outer calm. I have been working day and night on this series. Now I am ready to express myself in full bloom. I hope you like it.’
Sure, the paintings of Emil are real – the vibrant and colourful flowers and plants are concrete – lush and wildly growing. But they are also a mental image of inner landscapes. Of human existence. Fragile and perishable. Art and creativity are subjective and personal expressions. But art can also be a common platform that can form fertile ground for dialogue and understanding of the diversity of human nature. Bloom – go flourish yourself!
