BAROQUE – Marie Lindegaard Henningsen – september 2024

VÆG – Contemporary Art Gallery – new exhibition:

BAROQUE – solo exhibiton

MARIA LINDEGAARD HENNINGSEN

Friday, September 27th 2024 – from 4 to 7pm.

We are entering Autumn with a solo exhibition by Danish Maria Lindegaard Henningsen (b.1986). The exhibition BAROQUE consists of ceramic sculptures with an underlying narrative about our fragile human life.  The word baroque is derived from the word ‘barocco’ (Portuguese), which means “uneven or imperfect pearl”. The Baroque is a cultural period from approx. 1660 to 1760. Its characteristics are lavish decoration, magnificent details, voluminous tools, illusions, dramatic use of light, etc. In art criticism the term baroque has been a form of insult – in the sense of something meaningless or strange.

Maria Lindegaard is preoccupied with what is not shaped quite correctly – a kind of deformity – something that falls outside the usual categories. To see the potential in the irregular. In a digitally manipulated AI reality, it can be a challenge to navigate between reality and staging. In the ornamented figurative sculptures, Maria seeks to express a respect for the transience of life. The choice of ceramic material alone creates a physical sensuous fragility. One moment an aesthetically beautiful sculpture – POOF! – the next moment just bits and pieces without meaning or use value. It’s about appreciating the present, facing the potential pitfalls and creating fertile ground for a sustainable future. Maria is embracing the imperfect life, however baroque it may sound.

Maria Lindegaard Henningsen will be present at the opening.

Friday, September 27th 2023 – from 4 to 7pm.

The exhibition is on view until October 25th 2024

We look forward to seeing you.

Kind regards,

LARS BONDE
