VÆG – Contemporary Art Gallery – new exhibition:
We are entering the dark season. Some say it is the brightest time of the year, because it is now that we have the highest longings and expectations of the light to come back.
We proudly present two new artists at VÆG: Paintings by Danish Julia Hvidtved (b.1992) and glass objects by Swedish Sara Lundkvist (b.1982).
NUTID (‘present’ in Danish). This exhibition is not dwelling by the past nor the future. It is about being present – capturing the moment right now. Although the inspiration is build on sources from different times and historical periods, from magical phenomena and science fiction – the creation of the works are created in a physical present. Both artists are accepting a loss of control. It is part of their process. A completely conscious intention. The ambitions are to create a certain vibrant feeling.
The way in which Julia confronts the canvas. Her brush strokes. Fast and spontaneous. Layer upon layer. Intuitive choices of mixing a particular colour. Painting abstractions of everyday objects. You have to challenge yourself in order to create a way of understanding – what is it actually I am seeing?
Or the way Sara blows her glass. The heat and the sweat. A physical sensuous fragility. The colourful objects – from the mystical darkness to all the colours of the rainbow – are tense and powerful, but also sensual and almost soft. Looking into Sara’s objects you find a reflection of a distorted self – is it actually a surrealist portrait of myself?
Both Julia and Sara strive to reach out – open a doorway to a dreamworld – making room for desire, hope and dreams. There is a certain kind of spirituality connected to their works. It is not a timeless aesthetic. It is contemporary. Modern. And yet classic with a very present touch.
The exhibition is on view until November 30th 2024
We look forward to seeing you.
Kind regards,
LARS BONDE
